MES Technoservice Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (hereinafter as MTM) has officially completed the installation and
commissioning of the Trolley Anti-Stack Collision System for 16 units of MITSUI Rubber Tired Gantry (RTG)
cranes owned by International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (hereinafter as ICTSI). This major technical upgrade represents a significant milestone in enhancing port operational safety and
preventing container damage during handling.
Project Overview
This project involved comprehensive electrical, mechanical, and software enhancements across a fleet of
16 Mitsui–PACECO Transtainer® RTG cranes. The meticulous commissioning process jointly validated and
signed off by engineers from both MES Technoservice Malaysia and ICTSI ensured that every single unit met
rigorous functional and safety standards.
The core of the upgrade focused on integrating a sophisticated SICK 2D Laser Assist System to actively
mitigate operational risks during hoisting and trolley traversing. By interfacing trolley- and cab-mounted 2D
laser sensors with the crane PLC, the system enables real-time container and obstacle detection. This
provides vital operator assistance, prevents hard landings, and eliminates collision risks between spreaders
(laden or unladen) and stacked containers or chassis.
Core System Features & Functionality
- Real-Time Stack Profiling: Automatically scans container stack profiles on a real-time basis. Stacking
profiles update immediately after gantry motion stops at a new bay. - Trolley Traverse Control:
- Smart Slowdown: Automatically decelerates trolley speed to creep speed based on
approach distance and velocity. - Smart Stop: Automatically stops trolley motion at a preset safety clearance from obstacles.
This function can be enabled or disabled by the user and the trolley will automatically stop
only when the Smart Stop function is enabled.
- Smart Slowdown: Automatically decelerates trolley speed to creep speed based on
- Hoist Lowering Control:
- Smart Slowdown: Automatically decelerates lowering speed to creep speed as the
spreader approaches container or chassis landing height.
- Smart Slowdown: Automatically decelerates lowering speed to creep speed as the
A Commitment to Operational Excellence
With the final sign-offs completed on 1st June 2026, the 16 Mitsui RTGs are now fully operational and
equipped with smarter, safer handling technology. This project highlights MES Technoservice Malaysia’s
