As part of our commitment to operational safety, efficiency, and environmental sustainability, MES Technoservice Malaysia is proud to announce the successful completion of the Hybrid Battery Replacement project on four (4) MITSUI Rubber-Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes at the Manila International Container Terminal (MICT) in the Philippines.
This milestone reflects our ongoing dedication to providing sustainable, high-efficiency port equipment engineering and lifecycle support across Southeast Asia.
Project Overview
The project involved the complete removal of the legacy Toshiba Hybrid Battery system and the successful installation and commissioning of a hybrid battery system equipped with GS Yuasa battery modules across designated MITSUI RTG cranes at MICT. The scope encompassed main power battery modules, sensor infrastructure, control units, breaker modifications, and PLC communication expansion to enhance power reliability and system integration.
Key Technical Upgrades
- Battery Module Upgrade: Modernized legacy battery banks to high-performance GS Yuasa battery modules (LB01–LB18), retrofitted using custom mounting attachments on existing frame points.
- Control Architecture: Replaced legacy Battery Control Units (BCU) with the LIBM2 system, supported by custom mounting plates and full control interface rewiring.
- Sensors & Circuit Protection: Upgraded existing current sensors to HCS Hall-effect sensors and reconfigured the 30MCB moulded circuit breaker system.
Impact on Terminal Operations
By modernizing the battery storage and monitoring architecture on MICT’s hybrid RTG fleet, this retrofit delivers:
- Enhanced Energy Efficiency: Reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions during active container handling operations.
- Advanced Monitoring: Provides real-time diagnostic insights for terminal maintenance personnel to support predictive maintenance.
- Long-Term Parts Availability: Ensures sustainable operational support through a guaranteed supply of MES RTG replacement battery modules manufactured by GS Yuasa.
A Commitment to Operational Excellence
With final sign-offs completed on 18 May 2026, all four MITSUI RTGs are fully operational and optimized for peak performance. This project highlights MES Technoservice Malaysia’s commitment to delivering top-tier engineering solutions, robust safety systems, and reliable technical support to our global port partners, including ICTSI.
